Welcome to the 4th issue of my weekly newsletter!

I hope to share useful information that you might find helpful as well as track my own journey and improve my writing.

Let's begin.

Built this Week

In search of an idea that I want to pursue, this week I continued doing that. I have found two things that I want to start but not sure about which to go with. Or if they are good ideas to pursue at all.

These two ideas are:

Both of these are not ground breaking software ideas. But I think they are categories where I can make a meaningful dent in.

I want to talk a bit about both and my reasonings as to why I like them and why maybe I don't.

QR code generator

I have actually wanted to make a site for this a couple of times.

I like this idea because it's an evergreen growing problem. QR codes have been becoming more and more popular and there's a need for people to have a really good website that offers creation of QR codes. This tool would be free for the most part and maybe in the future it will have some paid features.

I really think if I focus I can provide a lot of value in this space over a long period of time.

However, there are two things that keep me hesitant on creating this site.

One of them is that there are already so many tools out there that solve exactly this problem. I question if I can create something of value that will be better than most if not all of them?

Also, the problem itself is not too complicated to solve. The fundamental bits anyway. Maybe I won't find it challenging enough and will become bored by it?

Email templates creator for marketers

This problem is niche but it's a good one. So many marketers in various companies design emails to send out for their campaigns and newsletters etc.

There are already some really good tools out there. I have had a play around with some of them. I like the idea of working on this problem because it's niche enough but not too small. There are a decent number of people out there that can use this tool. It targets businesses too, which is good.

The only reason I kind of hesitate to start this project is because I think the tool might be too complicated for my current skill level.

I want to be able to have an MVP out there as quickly as possible and with this project it might take me some time to create the MVP. This means for weeks I will just be talking about how I'm building an MVP and not actually deliver something useful fast.

I'm going to sit with these ideas a bit more and try to pursue one. Will let you know next week how that goes.

Insights and Resources

This week I started reading David Goggins' book Can't Hurt Me. If you don't know David, he's known for his resilience and pushing past limits to pursue any goal.

Over the years I have watched various podcast episodes where he appears and have generally found him really inspiring and motivating.

But I never read his book even though I knew about its existence.

I have read the first two chapters so far and I must say even though I thought I knew about his upbringing and his life in general from the podcasts, the book has a lot of stuff that is pretty shocking.

David shares the really dark details of his upbringing which is pretty difficult to read / imagine at times. It's brutal. I won't mention any of the stories here but I do recommend reading it if you're ever interested in his work.

You don't have to read his book but I can definitely recommend watching of his podcast appearances. You will definitely hear stuff that will make you rethink about how hard you are actually able to push yourself towards your work.

Podcast 1

Podcast 2

That's it for this week's issue :)
