I have seen and also heard about people floating in there jobs. By that I mean they try to do the minimum work possible to not get in any trouble.

It's not like they are focused on something else outside of their job that is taking away a lot of their focus and energy. The reasoning is usually that they are not feeling fulfilled by the work that they do. They just don't care anymore about it.

But I think that's a paradox.

If everyday you only do the minimum required to not get fired, you will never feel fulfilled. Fulfilment comes from diving deep into the work that you do and giving it all you have to achieve a good result.

Not caring and doing the bare minimum is the easy path. Fulfilment and happiness never comes from the easy path. It's very easy to do the bare minimum and start to not care about the work that you do. It's hard to show up everyday and give your work the full attention it requires to achieve more.

Don't take the easy path.

Once you start working hard at your job, you will start to care about the work you do. You will enjoy your work because you'll get positive feedback from the hard work you put in.

working hard > positive result > feeling fulfilled > caring about your work

There are many reasons why you shouldn't float at your job. Seeking fulfilment is just one of the many reasons.

Work hard and you'll start to realise all the other benefits as you experience them.
