I have to say reading this was a bit underwhelming even though the stakes were higher than ever. It just goes to show making things bigger doesn’t always make them better.

The thing I loved about the first two books were the personal struggles of characters. Following Kaladin’s story from a bridge boy who has lost hope to finally starting to try to live again was wonderful.

Likewise, the best part of this book to me was learning about Dalinar. The flashbacks had me absolutely hooked. I would always find myself wishing for the next flashback chapter of Dalinar. His personal story of going from someone who lives for the thrill of battle to becoming a man that has to solve things diplomatically was told really well. And of course, finding out about why he can’t hear his wife’s name was absolutely heartbreaking and had me shell-shocked.

Overall, enjoyed the book but going to give this series a break maybe. The first two books were better by far.
