I can FEEL the subtext but I understand none of it sadly. I feel annoyed at myself that the part I enjoy the most is the bit that has linear storytelling.

This feels like one of those books you have to read multiple times to understand what the author is trying to say.

I’m either too stupid or at a wrong point in my life to truly appreciate this book. I hope to believe it’s the latter and so some years down the line I will read it again.

Whenever I’ve read Dostoyevsky’s work, it always ends up feeling like he’s rambling about stuff. But it’s all so coherent and it’s not rambling at all. It feels like following the exact thought patterns of his characters and that was the case here too.

It’s actually very enjoyable at times to read the thought processes of the man underground in this book. How it jumps from one thing to the next and it all connects perfectly.

TLDR: I enjoyed reading this and can appreciate the masterful writing but I do not understand the subtext.
