I watched this movie called Arrival many years ago and absolutely loved it. So I wanted my next fiction read to be something like that. A sci-fi story that really tries to bend the way we see things.

From that I found that Ted Chiang was the writer of Arrival. So I picked up this book.

The book is a compilation of a bunch of short stories with different sci-fi elements. At the end of each story the Ted shares how he came up with the idea for the stories.

I found some stories really really engaging and interesting. And some not so much.

The first story was for sure my most favourite one. A view of time travel that’s a bit different than how most people think of Time travelling. In this story Ted tries to imagine a time travel concept where you can travel a fixed distance to the future or the past. But you cannot change the outcome of your life. No matter how hard you try. The point was that time travelling just gives you more perspective about how things came about in your life. But you can never change anything.

It was pretty cool.

Another good story was about the lifecycle of software objects.

Overall it was an enjoyable read but nothing crazy. An entertaining read I would say.
